Do" List
This handy "To
Do" List will ensure you get everything taken care of on
schedule, and that no important details get overlooked.
One to Two
Months Before the Baby Shower
-
Decide on a date
for the baby shower.

Make a guest list
/ decide on the number of guests. (Things to Consider: Will you
invite women only, or couples?)

Decide on a
location for the baby shower. (Things to Consider: Will you have the
shower at your home, in a restaraunt, a church hall or community
hall, or a hotel reception room?)

Decide on the type
of food service and plan the menu. (Things to Consider: Will it be a
sit down meal, a buffet, pot luck, finger foods, coffee and dainties,
wine and cheese, afternoon tea....? Who will provide the food?
Caterers, restaraunt, do-it-yourself...?)

Decide on the
style, formality, anf mood of the shower. (Things to Consider: Formal
or casual, elegant or whimsical...?

Decide whether you
will have a theme, and if so, what it will be. (More on baby
shower themes...)

Draw up a map or
directions to the baby shower and print enough copies to include with
each invitation you'll be sending out.

Shop for, select,
and mail invitations. (Things to Consider: Will you purhcase
invitations or make your own? Will you use fill in the blank cards,
or custom order them pre-printed?)

Book any special
vendors, entertainment or other surprises, if applicable.
Two to Three
Weeks Before the Baby Shower

Finalize the menu.

Prepare or order
printed menu and cocktail menu or menu cards (if desired).

Place order for a
baby shower cake if applicable.
-
Shop for, select,
and purchase decorations and baby showr favors.

Decide whether you
will include party games, and if so, decide on which games (More on baby
shower games...)

Shop for and
purchase prizes for games, if applicable.

Order / Book any
party rental supplies you may require, if applicable (tables, chairs,
linens, outdoor tent, dishware, serving accessories, theme decorations...)

Purchase your gift
for the guest of honor, or the group gift for the guest of honor if
you have opted for one large gift from all guests.

Purchase a guest
book or memory album for guests to sign (or make a memory album)
One Week
Before the Baby
Shower
-
Finalize the guest
count, particularly if a sit down meal will be served. Make polite follow-up
calls to guests if needed.

Prepare place
cards if desired.

Place order for
balloons bouquet or helium balloons, if applicable.
-
Place order for
food platter / sandwiches to be made by a vendor, if applicable.
-
Select background
music and make sure you have any equipment you require.

Purchase a baby
shower card for the guest of honor
-
Order a corsage
from a florist for the guest of honor
One Day
Before the Baby Shower
-
Purchase food and
prepare platters and/or pick up any special food platters ordered.

Purchase beverages.
-
Make telephone
calls to confirm with all vendors, if applicable.
-
Have cash on hand
to tip vendors, if applicable.
-
Make sure camera
and / or video camera are ready to go, complete with film, batteries,
and any other necessary accessories like a power cord, tripod, etc.

Wrap gifts/ prizes
for game winners and review instructions for games.

Wrap your gift and
sign your card for the mommy-to-be.
-
Buy flowers if applicable.
-
Pick up cake if applicable
-
Prepare street
signs leading to the party, if necessary.

Pick up any party
rentals that are not being delivered.
-
Pick up the
corsage for the guest of honor if its not being delivered

Tidy up house and
party area(s).
Day of the
Baby Shower
-
Decorate (Or can
be done the night before).

Place nametags
out, if applicable. (Or can be done the night before)

Place flowers out
on tables, on buffet table, and/or restroom. (Or can be done the
night before)

Buy fresh bread or
rolls (if applicable) and any last minute items. (Or can be done the
night before)
-
Buy ice (if needed).
-
Set up food on on
buffet table.
-
Set up the gift
table. (Or can be done the night before)
-
Set up the guest
book on a table near the door so guests can sign it upon arrival
-
Pick up or prepare
balloons (if they are not being delivered).
-
Set up tables and
chairs for guests if required. (Or can be done the night before)
-
Place baby shower
favors on tables. (Or can be done the night before)
-
Put out beverages,
glasswear, blender, ice, coffee, and condiments.

Put out street
signs a half hourbefore people are expected to arrive (if applicable).
