Baby
Shower Time-Line
When
Should the Baby Shower Take Place?
The appropriate
time to host the baby shower is one
to two months before the baby is
due. You want to avoid planning the shower any closer to due date in
case the baby arrives early, and also because
the mom-to-be might not feel up to socializing as her due date draws closer.
Another reason
that it is best to have the shower at least 4 weeks before the baby
arrives is so that the soon-to-be mom still has the chance to shop
for any baby items she didn't get at the shower, but which might
still need. Plus this will also allow the expectant parents time to
finish setting up the nursery with the gifts they received at the
baby shower.
Making
the Guest List
Make a list of
everyone you will invite to the baby shower as
soon as you have decided that you will host the shower.
Unless you are planning the baby shower as a surprise for
mommy-to-be, its a good idea to ask for her input when creating the
guest list. Find out who she would like to have at the shower, and
ask her to provide a list of names and contact details as soon as
possible so you don't find yourself scrambling at the last minute
when it is time to send out the invitations.
Knowing how many
people you are inviting right from the start is important because it
will be your guide in making other important decisions such as what
type of food to serve, how many invitations or baby shower favors you
will need, etc.
When
to Send Baby Shower Invitations
Baby shower
invitations are generally sent out about three
to four weeks before the date of
the baby shower. To get the best turn-out at the shower, you want to
make sure you allow plenty of notice so that guests can plan the
occasion into their schedules, not to mention shop for a gift! But,
of course, you also want to avoid sending invitations so far in
advance that people forget. So shoot for inviting people 3 - 4 weeks
in advance of your little soiree, and your timing will be perfect!

Be sure to shop
for invitations in plenty
of time before you need to send
them. You will need to allow
enough time to select the style you
like, order them and wait for arrival (unless you are buying them off
the rack at a local store) - and, of course, to address them. Make
sure you have all of the address information for each guest at least a
week before you need to send the
invitations, just in case you find that you are missing some contact
info and need to hunt it down.
See the Baby
Shower Invitations section for more advice
and guidelines on invitations for the baby shower.
When
to Ask Guests to RSVP
If you need to
know how many guests will be attending in advance, ask guests to RSVP
at least a week
before the shower. This will help you in knowing how much food to
have on hand, etc. See the Baby
Shower Invitations section for more advice
and guidelines on invitations for the baby shower.
